Hilton has rolled out a new Digital Key Share feature across its entire portfolio of 7,300 properties worldwide. The feature allows the primary guest to share digital room access with up to four additional people through the Hilton Honors app, even before they arrive at the hotel.
Each shared key can be customized with specific access windows, and the primary guest can revoke access at any time. The system uses Bluetooth Low Energy technology and works even without Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity near the room door.
Hilton says the feature is particularly popular with families and business travel groups, eliminating the common frustration of coordinating physical key cards when traveling with multiple people. The company also sees it as a safety feature, as it creates an auditable log of room access events.
