The Transportation Security Administration has expanded its PreCheck enrollment program to accept mobile driver's licenses stored in smartphone digital wallets as valid identification in 15 states. The change streamlines the enrollment process by eliminating the need to present physical documents at enrollment centers.
Travelers in participating states can complete the entire PreCheck enrollment process remotely through the TSA mobile app, including identity verification using their state-issued mobile driver's license. The process takes approximately 10 minutes compared to the 30-minute average for in-person enrollment appointments.
The expansion follows successful pilot programs in Arizona, Colorado, and Maryland that processed over 200,000 mobile enrollments without a single identity fraud case. TSA Administrator David Pekoske says the agency plans to extend mobile enrollment to all 50 states by the end of 2027 as more states adopt digital identification standards.
