The REAL ID enforcement deadline of May 7, 2025 has arrived, meaning standard driver's licenses will no longer be accepted for domestic air travel. Here's everything travelers need to know.
What You Need
A REAL ID-compliant license (marked with a gold star), US passport, passport card, or military ID is now required to board any domestic flight. TSA will turn away travelers without compliant identification.
Still Don't Have One?
Most states offer same-day or next-day REAL ID issuance at DMV offices. A passport card ($65, valid 10 years) is the fastest alternative for those who can't visit the DMV.
- Standard licenses no longer accepted for flights
- REAL ID has gold star marking
- Passport or passport card also accepted
- Same-day REAL ID available in most states
